Born fourteen weeks premature, weighing just one pound. thirteen ounces, Marisa spent 145 days in the NICU. She survived multiple code blues, two deadly infections and three major eye surgeries all before six months old.

Marisa’s vision was affected due to Retinopathy of Prematurity, a complication of being born too early.

This tiny miracle continues to overcome adversity and is determined to persevere.

Marisa has courageously stepped beyond her disability and participated in activities such as dance, gymnastics, track, swim, choir and marching band.

In addition to being a print reader and writer, she is fluent in Braille and is a five time 1st place winner at the West Florida Braille Challenge.

Marisa maintained a 4.0 GPA in high school and was a member of the National Honor Society.

She was a 2019 honoree of the Anne Frank Humanitarian Award by the Florida Holocaust Museum.

Marisa served as Chaplain of the Student Council Senior class and Chaplain of the 2A state champion Royal Ambassador Marching Band.

Named, Miss NCS 2020, this honor, voted on by faculty, was based on a respected Christian testimony, high academic standards, leadership skills and commitment to extracurricular activities.

She has a passion for writing and speaking.

Marisa has shared her story and testimony at several schools and church services. She has also spoken at non-profit events in the community about life with vision loss and overcoming adversity.

She graduated summa cum laude from Southeastern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership and a minor in Communication.

She is currently enrolled at the University of Florida, working toward a Master of Arts Degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations.
