Scars - Poem

cross made of stone on water's edge

We often try to hide our scars from God and from others. But our scars, our wounds and weaknesses, can actually lead others to the Healer. Even Jesus has scars. His scars testify of His love for us.

Our scars testify of His compassion and healing in our lives. We can boldly show our scars because others will see Jesus through them.

Scars.

Yeah, we try to hide them

Lock them up in a secret place

Where no one can find them

But He designs them

Redefines them

These cuts make us shine brighter like a diamond

We try to blow them off

But He wants us to show them off

Cause that’s where the beauty is

Without a crack, how can the light get in?

That’s where grace begins

Sink it in

The hurt goes deep

And the heart grows weak

All our broken pieces cause us to seek

To seek out for more

Yeah, there’s a Healer who took up our pain for sure

As He hung on that tree

He bore our suffering

Despised and rejected

So we could again be connected

On the third day, resurrected

That’s the gospel

Blood, sweat and tears

I’m in this for the rest of my years

Despite the fears

Our path to freedom brought Him pain

Now we can show all our scars, free of shame

Healing power displayed

As Jesus’ tears rolled down His cheeks like rain

Yeah, we’ll never be the same

Cause the King came to give us a brand-new name

What’s your name?

Is it shame? Is it pain?

No, Christ gave you victory

Over all the blame

Your new name is redeemed

Forgiven and set free

Just believe

And you’ll see

He’s engraved you on the palm of His hand

Those scars equal your salvation

That’s the plan

Please understand

This Jesus I speak of is more than a man

He is God in the flesh

He came down from on high to put all our guilt to rest

Oh, we’re a mess

Falling short of the glory of God even at our best

But there’s no need to stress

Jesus’ sacrifice passed the test

His grace is sufficient to save

In obedience to the Father, He went to the grave

But He did not stay

On the third day

God raised Him from the dead

So once and for all we are delivered from sin

I’ll repeat it again

He that knew no sin

Became a sin offering for us

Now we have access to God

For it is in Him that we trust

His body was broken

So the next time your heart is split open

Just remember who it is that you’ve put your hope in

He has spoken

It is finished

Now we speak

The message of His forgiveness

Scars.

Yeah, we try to hide them

Lock them up in a secret place

Where no one can find them

But this is how the world will recognize Him

Scars.
