Agreement in Prayer - Matthew 18:19-20

Scripture

Matthew 18:19-20 (NIV)

Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

Reflection

In Matthew 18:19-20, Jesus emphasizes the power and importance of agreement in prayer and the promise of His presence among believers. These verses highlight two key aspects of our faith: the effectiveness of united prayer and the assurance of Christ’s presence in our gatherings.

When believers come together in unity and agree in prayer, there is a special promise that their requests will be granted by God the Father. This unity in prayer reflects a harmonious alignment with God's will, which Jesus assures us is powerful and effective. Furthermore, Jesus promises that His presence is there when even just a small number of believers gather in His name. This means that no matter how small the group, God honors their coming together and is with them.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for the promise that You are with us when we gather in Your name. Help us to come together in unity and agreement, lifting our prayers to You with one heart and mind. May we experience the power of Your presence in our gatherings and may our prayers align with Your will. Strengthen our faith in the effectiveness of united prayer and guide us to be instruments of Your peace and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Action Steps

  1. Join in Prayer: Find a prayer partner or join a prayer group. Commit to praying together regularly, focusing on unity and agreement in your requests.

  2. Encourage Unity: Foster a spirit of unity and agreement in your community. Encourage others to pray together and support one another.

  3. Personal Prayer: Continue to develop your personal prayer life, but also seek opportunities to pray with others, knowing the power of united pryaer.
