But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.

Commentary

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to get caught up in the endless cycle of work, responsibilities and worries. We often find ourselves preoccupied with meeting our needs and achieving our goals. Yet, in the midst of these concerns, Jesus offers a profound and liberating instruction: seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

Seeking God's kingdom means prioritizing His rule and reign in every aspect of our lives. It involves aligning our actions, decisions and priorities with His will. When we put God at the center, we acknowledge His sovereignty and submit to His guidance. This act of seeking is not passive but active; it requires intentional effort to pursue God's ways above our own.

The promise attached to this command is profound: "and all these things will be given to you as well." Jesus assures us that when we prioritize God’s kingdom, our needs will be met. This doesn’t mean we will always get everything we want, but it does mean that God will provide for our essential needs. It’s an invitation to trust in His provision and care, freeing us from the anxiety that often accompanies our material pursuits.

Matthew 6:33 encourages us to live with an eternal perspective. Our daily choices and actions should reflect our ultimate goal of glorifying God and advancing His kingdom. When we focus on God’s kingdom, we are reminded that our lives have a higher purpose beyond temporal concerns. This perspective brings peace and clarity, helping us navigate life’s challenges with faith and trust in God's promises.
